In
1992 the PSQ was launched by the National Statistics Office (NSO)
and Philippine Statistical Association (PSA).
The quiz was the brainchild of then NSO Administrator
Tomas P. Africa who was also the PSA President at that time.
The
Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is an annual competition in
statistics among college freshmen enrolled in any school,
college or universities in the Philippines.
It aims to instill the value of statistics among students
and to measure the effectiveness of the high school statistics
curriculum. Moreover,
PSQ seeks to win public cooperation in all government
statistical endeavors such as censuses and surveys, and thereby
enable the government to generate quality data for national
development planning.
