12th Philippine Statistics Quiz Regional Elimination held in CALABARZON and MIMAROPA


In 1992 the PSQ was launched by the National Statistics Office (NSO) and Philippine Statistical Association (PSA).  The quiz was the brainchild of then NSO Administrator Tomas P. Africa who was also the PSA President at that time.

The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is an annual competition in statistics among college freshmen enrolled in any school, college or universities in the Philippines.  It aims to instill the value of statistics among students and to measure the effectiveness of the high school statistics curriculum.  Moreover, PSQ seeks to win public cooperation in all government statistical endeavors such as censuses and surveys, and thereby enable the government to generate quality data for national development planning.

Last November 14, 2003 at the CAP Development Center, Ayala Highway, Mataas na Lupa, Lipa City, the 12th Regional Elimination in the CALABARZON and MIMAROPA Regions were held. The following are the students who bagged the highest awards:

CALABARZON  
First place: Benny Marie B. Ensano - University of the Philippines,
Los Baņos
Second place: Herson S. Resurreccion - Southern Luzon Polytechnic College, Lucban, Quezon
Third place: Ryan M. Bonifacio - Batangas State University
MIMAROPA  
First place: Raymond Ceferino T. Meris III - Palawan State University
Second place: Melvin S. Domingo - Occidental Mindoro National College (Main)
Third place: Mark Anthony C. Gacol - Divine Word College of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
