Press Release: The 22nd National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in the SOCCSKSARGEN Region will culminate formally on November 4, 2011 with a Closing Ceremony to be hosted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Cotabato Branch. The program, which will start at 9:00AM, will be held at the Economic and Financial Learning Center (EFLC) of BSP-Cotabato located along Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City. The Closing Ceremonies will be lead by NEDA XII Regional Director Teresita Socorro C. Ramos and NSO XII Regional Director, Atty. Maqtahar L. Manulon, Chairperson and Co-Chairperson of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) XII, respectively. About 110 guests and representatives from various government offices, local government units, private organizations and the academe across the region are expected to witness the event. BSP-Cotabato Branch Head and Deputy Director Perry B. Dequita and Cotabato City Mayor, Hon. Japal J. Guiani, Jr., are among the guests expected to grace the Closing Ceremonies. The annual NSM celebration in the region has successfully forged statistical unity and cooperation among regional line agencies, local government units, non-government organizations and the academe in promoting the importance and value of statistics. The Closing Program will be highlighted by the awarding of prizes to the winners of the poster-making contest sponsored by BSP-Cotabato as one of their activities in line with the month-long celebration. Certificates of Appreciation will also be awarded to various line agencies, local government units, non-government organizations and the academe who participated and contributed to the successful celebration of the 22nd NSM in the region. Several activities were undertaken regionwide since the month-long celebration was formally opened last October 3, 2011 in Koronadal City. Activities included conduct of statistical symposia/fora, lectures, workshops and conferences, data presentation/dissemination, statistical exhibits, statistical quiz, poster and slogan-making contests, among others. Public information campaigns through radio programs/plugging and dissemination of IEC materials were also conducted to increase awareness of the public on the importance and usefulness of statistics. The 22nd NSM celebration in the region was highlighted by the launching of DSWD XII’s National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) database, MDG data presentation, tree planting activity of the RSCC XII in support to the government’s National Greening Program (NGP), the first Secondary Statistics Challenge of PrSCC-Sarangani, the inter-division/office Statistics Quiz of DENR XII, and the provincial eliminations of the Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) XII in tandem with the provinces in the region. The annual celebration of the NSM is aimed to increase statistical awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics and at the same time insuring the support of the general public in enhancing the quality and standard of statistics in our country.
