Tacurong City pupils are more diligent in studying

Recent data from the Basic Education Information System (BEIS) of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Region XII for school year (SY) 2006-2007 showed that Tacurong City Division posted the highest cohort survival and completion rates among the nine school divisions in the SOCCSKSARGEN Region. The report, however, covered public schools only.

Cohort survival rate is the percentage of enrollees at the beginning grade/year in a given school year who reached the final grade/year of the elementary/secondary level. Completion rate, on the other hand, is the percentage of first grade/year entrants in a level of education who complete/finish the level in accordance with the required number of years of study.

Tacurong City Division posted a cohort survival rate of 72.86 percent and a completion rate of 69.86 percent, way above the regional levels of 49.39 percent and 47.30 percent, respectively. 

Cotabato Division, on the other hand, registered the lowest cohort survival rate with 45 for every 100 pupils who entered grade 1 five years ago reaching the grade 6 level. Sarangani Division, however, posted the lowest completion rate with 41 for every 100 pupils who entered grade 1 six years ago graduating from elementary level.

The data also revealed that girls are more diligent in studying than boys. Cohort survival rate among girls was posted at 53.94 percent while that of the boys was 45.29 percent. Completion rate among boys was 42.91 percent, way below the 52.18 percent completion rate among girls. 

Tacurong City Division posted the highest cohort survival and completion rates for boys and girls.  Sarangani Division, on the other hand, posted the lowest completion rate among boys with 35.02 percent while Cotabato Division recorded the least for girls with 47.54 percent.
