Economics, USEP, were accepted for presentation at the 10th National
Convention on Statistics, (NCS), to be held at the EDSA Shangrila-La
Hotel, Metro Manila on October 1-2, 2007?

Fifteen studies conducted
by the faculty members, students of the School of Applied Economics
University of Southeastern Philippines, (USEP), the Brokenshire College, the
National Statistical Coordination Board XI, and the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources XI were accepted for presentation at the
National Convention on Statistics on October 1-2, 2007 at EDSA Shangri-La
Hotel, Metro Manila. The objectives of the Convention are two-fold, namely:
(1) to provide a forum for practitioners and theoreticians in the field of
statistics to discuss prevailing issues and emerging developments affecting
the PSS; and (2) to elicit the cooperation and support of statisticians and
professionals in related fields from the government, academe and private
sector towards a more responsive statistical system.
The fifteen
scientific papers comprise 58 percent of the 26 papers from Mindanao, which
were accepted for presentation at the said Convention. Out of the 26 papers
9 papers were submitted by the Northern Mindanao Region mostly from the
Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City, the
National Economic and Development Authority X and the National Statistics
Office X, Cagayan De Oro City. The CPDO of Gen. Santos City contributed a
paper on Local Government Performance Management System.
The accepted studies from Davao Region fall under the categories
of Econometric/Statistical Modeling: Agricultural and Agrarian Reform
Statistics; Environmental and Natural Resources Statistics; Health,
Nutrition and Biostatistics; Statistics on Decent Work; Gender Statistics,
Poverty Statistics, and Sub-national Statistics-Mindanao. The abstracts of

The School of Applied Economics, University of Southeastern Philippines,
submitted fourteen of these 15 studies.
The School of Applied
Economics, University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City conducts
researches on quantitative economic analysis, policy studies, and on
development planning. Some studies conducted by the School of Applied
Economics are accepted for presentation at national and international
conferences. Technical papers written by the faculty of the School of
Applied Economics on econometrics and policy studies and planning are
published in international journals. |
