Poverty Threshold: PhP 12,732 in 2004

Davao Region’s annual per capita poverty threshold stood at PhP12,732 in 2004 up by 11.7 percent, compared to the 2003 level of PhP11,399.  Of this minimum annual per capita income requirement, PhP 8,784 was intended for sustaining food needs and the remaining PhP3,948 was intended for other basic needs. Thus, a family of five members had to have a regular source of income amounting to PhP63,660 for the year or a monthly income of PhP5,305 to be able to sustain their basic needs.

In urban areas of Region XI, per capita threshold was placed at PhP14,604 in 2004, an increase of 10.1 percent over the 2003 threshold of PhP13,259.  In the same year, per capita poverty threshold in rural areas of the region stood at PhP11,963,  an increase of 12.3 percent compared to the 2003 level of  PhP10,651.

Among the provinces of Region XI, Davao del Norte had the highest poverty threshold in years 2003 and 2004 for all areas with PhP11,837 and PhP13,540, respectively.  On the other hand, Davao Oriental had the lowest per capita poverty threshold with PhP10,590 in 2003 and PhP11,616 in 2004.

Meanwhile, annual per capita food threshold of the region in 2004 reached PhP8,784, an 11.7 percent increase over the food threshold of PhP7,862 in 2003.  Therefore, a family of five members had to have an income of PhP43,920 for the year or PhP3,660 per month to be able to meet their minimum food needs.
