Davao City
will hold its 7th Women’s Summit

In line with the provisions of the City Ordinance No. 5004
otherwise known as the Women Development Code of Davao City and in
celebration of the 96th International Women’s Day, the Integrated
Gender and Development Division of the City Government of Davao
will hold its 7th Women’s Summit on March 6, 2006, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
at the The Venue located at Quirino Avenue, Davao City. This year’s
theme is “CEDAW: Ipatigbabaw Katungod sa Kababayen-an”, “CEDAW ng
Bayan, Karapatan ng Kababaihan” in Filipino.
Ambassador Rosario Manalo will be the keynote speaker for
this forthcoming summit. About 700 participants from different
organizations all over Davao City are expected to attend the said program.
Part of the program will be a presentation of reports and
resolutions, by district and by sector, agreed and released during the
pre-summit conferences/workshops held a week before the big event for the
women of Davao City. There will be four (4) areas of concerns relating to
women to be undertaken during the presentation namely, Education, Business,
Media and Police.
Several pre-summit conferences and workshops were conducted from February 23
to March 3, 2006 covering topics on education, health, media, peace, among
others.
In health sector, for example, major stakeholders such as the Philippine
Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and the Philippine Medical Society
joined the NGOs in a workshop held on February 27, 2006. During this
workshop, an orientation on the CEDAW and the Women Development Code of
Davao City was conducted. The Integrated Gender and Development Division
also presented their accomplishments and the accomplishments of other
agencies in the city government. Resolutions on women’s health were proposed
by the workshop participants to be presented to the City Government during
the Women Summit.
