RSCC XI Spearheads the
Celebration of the 17th National Statistics Month!

In
October the country will be celebrating the 17th National
Statistics Month (NSM) with the theme, “Empowering Consumers Through
Responsive Energy Statistics”. The theme emphasizes the importance of
energy statistics towards empowering consumers in their energy consumption
and conservation measures. The 17th NSM has two-fold
objectives. One is to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness
and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics. The other one
is to elicit the cooperation and support of the public in improving and
enhancing the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
As in the previous
years, the Regional Statistical Coordination Board XI (RSCC XI), with NSCB
XI as Secretariat, will again spearhead the celebration of the National
Statistics Month here in Davao Region. Statistical activities relevant to
the development of statistical system in the respective provinces and cities
of the region have been programmed. These activities range from a simple
activity, such as hanging of streamer or display of NSM posters to holding
of statistical forum and lecture, statistical exhibits, seminar/training and
workshops, quiz, motorcade and information dissemination activities.
In observance of the NSM
theme, the Mindanao Economic Development Council will host a discussion on
empowering consumers through responsive energy statistics through the DXRP
in October 2006. Digos City will hold an Eco Fun Run and Biking, focusing on
energy conservation. NSCB RDXI will release a Fact Sheet on energy
statistics.
The celebration of the
National Statistics Month is in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No.
647, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National
Statistics Month,” issued on September 20, 1990. For this purpose, the
Socio Economic Secretary and National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB)
Chair, Romulo L. Neri has issued Memorandum Circular No. 001-06 enjoining
all agencies of the government, academic institutions and the private sector
at the national and sub-national levels to actively participate in and
support the NSM.
