Increasing Number of Reported HIV-AIDS Cases
in Mindanao (posted

The Southern Phil. Medical Center-Women
and Children Protection Unit reported that the number of HIV-AIDS Cases in
Mindanao has increased. From a single HIV AIDS case reported in 2003, this
has increased to 139. Although, the number of HIV-AIDS cases is not
significant relative to the total population, it is worth noting that from
2008 to 2011 the annual average growth on HIV/AIDS cases was more than

STATNEWS: Attainment of Gender
Parity in Davao Region Remains High in Terms of Education (posted
December 21, 2011)
Gender disparity in terms of net
enrolment of girls over those of boys is skewed towards girls. In school
year 2010-2011, for primary enrolment, the ratio of girls to boys
enrolment is 0.92 which means there are more boys enrollees than girls.
However, for secondary enrolment, more girls are in secondary school
than boys. For tertiary or college level, the ratio of girl to boy
enrollees is 1.3. (more

STATNEWS: Reported Cases of
Violence Against Women (VAW) in Davao City is on the Rise (posted
December 21, 2011)
According to the Philippine National
Police Region Regional Command XI, the reported cases on violence
against women, (VAW) such as rape, physical assault, acts of
lasciviousness in Davao City, is increasing from 2009 to 2010. In
particular, in 2010 the reported cases of VAW increased by 46.5% mostly
in terms of RA 9262 or VAWC cases. Reported VAWC cases increased by
48.6% in Davao City, when combined with rape cases, this increased by

STATNEWS:
Unemployment rate down to 4.6% in the Third
Quarter (posted
December 21, 2011)
Results showed that unemployment rate in the Davao
Region improved to 4.6 percent in this year’s October round of the Labor
Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO). The
figure was a 1.5 percentage point lower than the October 2010 survey round.
Davao region’s unemployment rate was 1.8 lower than the 6.4 percent posted

Davao Region inflation rate
slows down to 5.4% in November 2011 (posted
December 14, 2011)
The year-on-year headline inflation rate of the
Davao Region decelerated from 5.6 percent in October to 5.4 percent in
November 2011. The slowdown was primarily due to the deflation of food,
beverages and tobacco and services commodity groups, with 0.4 percentage
point and 0.1 percentage point drop, respectively. (more

Banana production in Region XI improves by 1.5 percent in 2010 (posted
November 25, 2011)
Banana, the region’s primary
agricultural commodity, posted a 1.5 percent increase in its production from the 3.7
million metric tons in 2009 to 3.8 million metric tons in 2010.
Province of Davao del Norte and Compostela
Valley were the primary producers of the said crop in 2010 with 40.5 and
34.7 percent share of the region’s production, respectively.

PSQ Regional Championship (posted

The National Statistics Office XI conducted the 20th
Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Regional Championship last November 17,
2011 at Sequoia Inn, Monteverde St., Davao City. Six colleges and
universities in Davao Region participated the said event, these are:
University of the Philippines in Mindanao (UP-Min); University of
Southeastern Philippines (USEP); Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU);
University of Mindanao (UM); Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC); and
Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST). (more
