FACTSHEET: Crime
Volume dropped by 21 percent!

Crime statistics of
the Philippine National Police XI (PNP) revealed that the number of
reported crimes in Region XI drastically dropped by 21.2 percent, from
20,028 in 2010 to 15,778 total crimes in 2011 representing a decrease of
4,250 crimes reported. There are two types of crimes in the
Philippines, namely: index and non-index. As defined, index crimes
refer to crimes that are sufficiently significant and occur with
sufficient regularity to be meaningful, while non-index crimes are all
types of crimes not considered as index crimes. Included in the
category of index crimes are murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape,
robbery, theft and cattle rustling. In 2011, a total of 11,014 index
crimes committed in the region compared to the 14,356 index crimes
registered the previous year, representing a decrease of 3,342 index
crimes reported. Meanwhile, non-index crimes dropped by 16 percent of

Employment increases to 95.4
percent (posted

Data from the Labor Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the
National Statistics Office (NSO) revealed that employment rate in Davao
Region posted at 95.4 percent in its October 2011 rounds survey, a 1.5 percentage points
higher compared to the 93.9 percent it posted in October
2010 rounds. Davao region’s
employment rate was 1.8 percentage points higher than the 93.6 percent posted

Davao Region inflation rate
slows down to 5.3% in December 2011 (posted

The year-on-year headline inflation rate of the
Davao Region slowed down slightly at 5.3 percent in the last month of

is now available. It is the fourth RSET publication produced by the National
Statistical Coordination Board Regional Division XI
(NSCB RD
XI).
The RSET Davao Region is part of the continuing effort of the NSCB RD XI in
its desire to provide timely, relevant, accurate and useful data to
government planners, decision makers, investors, researchers, general public

Increasing Number of Reported HIV-AIDS Cases
in Mindanao (posted

The Southern Phil. Medical Center-Women
and Children Protection Unit reported that the number of HIV-AIDS Cases in
Mindanao has increased. From a single HIV AIDS case reported in 2003, this
has increased to 139. Although, the number of HIV-AIDS cases is not
significant relative to the total population, it is worth noting that from
2008 to 2011 the annual average growth on HIV/AIDS cases was more than

STATNEWS: Attainment of Gender
Parity in Davao Region Remains High in Terms of Education (posted
December 21, 2011)
Gender disparity in terms of net
enrolment of girls over those of boys is skewed towards girls. In school
year 2010-2011, for primary enrolment, the ratio of girls to boys
enrolment is 0.92 which means there are more boys enrollees than girls.
However, for secondary enrolment, more girls are in secondary school
than boys. For tertiary or college level, the ratio of girl to boy
enrollees is 1.3. (more

STATNEWS: Reported Cases of
Violence Against Women (VAW) in Davao City is on the Rise (posted
December 21, 2011)
According to the Philippine National
Police Region Regional Command XI, the reported cases on violence
against women, (VAW) such as rape, physical assault, acts of
lasciviousness in Davao City, is increasing from 2009 to 2010. In
particular, in 2010 the reported cases of VAW increased by 46.5% mostly
in terms of RA 9262 or VAWC cases. Reported VAWC cases increased by
48.6% in Davao City, when combined with rape cases, this increased by
84.5%. (more

Unemployment rate down to 4.6% in the Third
Quarter (posted
December 21, 2011)
Results showed that unemployment rate in the Davao
Region improved to 4.6 percent in this year’s October round of the Labor
Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO). The
figure was a 1.5 percentage point lower than the October 2010 survey round.
Davao region’s unemployment rate was 1.8 lower than the 6.4 percent posted
