Presidential Proclamation No. 647, series of 1990, signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino, declared the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month. The National Statistics Month celebration, as cited in the premises of the said proclamation, is a step towards promoting, enhancing and instilling nation-wide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value that statistics provide to the different sectors of our society, while at the same time insuring the support of the public at large in improving and enhancing the quality and standard of statistics in the country, giving statistics the official recognition it rightfully deserves as it play a pivotal and crucial role in policy formulation, planning and decision making in both the government and the private sectors.

In pursuant to the above cited proclamation, Northern Mindanao will once again celebrate the National Statistics Month on its 21st year with the theme “Towards a Philippine Statistical System Responsive to Emerging National and Global Challenges.” To highlight the start of the month-long celebration, the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) will hold a forum on the “Assessment of the Availability and Needs of Subnational Statistics In the Philippine Statistical System” on the 1st of October at National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office 10. The said activity aims to present current trends in subnational statistics in the region and solicit inputs for the improvement of the said statistics from the stakeholders for inclusion in the Policy Agenda of the RSCC.

Coinciding the celebration of the National Statistics Month, the region will also celebrate the 1st World Statistics Day as advocated by the United Nations Statistics Division on the 20th of October 2010. The Regional Statistical Coordination Committee will be holding a symposium to promote statistical awareness to students.

The 21st NSM regional celebration is hosted by the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) with the National Economic and Development Authority as Chair, and with the active participation of the various Regional Line Agencies and Local Government Units (LGUs).
