Misamis Oriental and Camiguin are among the Top 10 Provinces in the Country with Highest Visitor Arrivals in 2001?

     

The provinces of Misamis Oriental and Camiguin ranked 8th and 10th with highest visitor arrivals in the country for the year 2001. The total travelers to Misamis Oriental reached 269,173 which accounts 53 percent share to the total visitor arrivals in Northern Mindanao. On the other hand, visitors going to the province of Camiguin totaled to 176,161 sharing around 35 percent of the region’s visitors. Among the provinces in Region 10, Misamis Occidental registered the lowest travelers in 2001.

Domestic travelers in Northern Mindanao, totaling to 488,825, accounts for the 96 percent of the total visitors in the region while foreigners and balikbayans shares 3 and 1 percent respectively. This scenario of visitors’ distribution at the regional level is reflective of the distribution of visitors in all of the provinces in Northern Mindanao.

Domestic and foreign visitors frequent Misamis Oriental and Camiguin due to its diverse tourist destinations. Among the favorite sites in Misamis Oriental are Migtusok Falls, Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village, Macahambus Cave and Gorge, and Catanico Falls all are located within the proximity of Cagayan de Oro City. The province of Camiguin has a lot to offer to its visitors. It is famous for its fine white sand beaches, hot spring resorts, undersea volcanoes, and the historical Catarman Church ruins. The province also celebrates the cheerful Lanzones Festival every October which draws a lot of tourists. Aside from the obvious breathtaking tourist destinations in the region, Cagayan de Oro City has become an ideal venue of numerous inter-regional and national conventions and trade fairs while Camiguin’s peace and order situation makes all visitors feel secured as the it is one of the country’s provinces that has the lowest number if crimes reported.
