Investments in leading industries down  in Q2 2006

 

The region’s investments in leading industries/sectors in the 2nd quarter of 2006 reached P112.2 M, down by 74.8 percent from the same period of last year. Construction, which accounted for 74.1 percent of the P445.9 million investments in the 2nd quarter of 2005, contributed only P14.6 million in the 2nd quarter of 2006. Tobacco industry was the biggest contributor among the leading industries in the 2nd quarter of 2006 posting P25.4 million, an increase of 53.9 percent from the same quarter of last year. Other big contributors include trading/service, agri-products, food processing and construction.

 

Exports, meanwhile, was recorded at US$4.1 M during the 2nd quarter of 2006, higher by 19.3 percent as compared to 1st quarter of 2005. This was largely due to tobacco industry which raked in US$3.2 million. Other top performers in exports were food processing (US$338,000) and feldspar/pebbles (US$135,000).
