The province of Ilocos Norte has completed the pilot-testing of the generation of data from the Business Licensing System (BLS), a joint activity of the province, through the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), and the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) Region I. The pilot activity was conducted to address the demand for data with lower level disaggregation.
The pilot activity officially started on April 2004. It utilized administrative forms used in the issuance of business permits by the municipal governments. It covered business permits issued for the period 2002 and 2003. The forms were processed by the municipalities and these were consolidated by the PPDO. The pilot activity came out with the following provincial summary tables: 1) Number of Establishments by Type of Business, Type of Registration and Municipality; and, 2) Number of Establishments by Capital Investment and Municipality. Municipal tables with barangay level disaggregation were also generated by the municipalities.
The RSCC provided over-all guidance and support to the activity while the NSCB Regional Division I provided technical assistance to the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte in processing of the administrative forms, preparation of statistical tables and consolidation of data.
The evaluation of the pilot activity is one of the agenda of the RSCC during its 3rd regular meeting on November 8, 2006.
