REGION I RANKS THIRD IN THE 2004-2005 NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
TEST FOR GRADE VI
The Ilocos-Pangasinan Region, with an overall average of 63.9 percent in all subject areas, ranked third nationwide in the National Achivement Test (NAT) for Grade VI for SY 2004-2005. Tests results showed that the Grade VI pupils in the region had near mastery levels in Mathematics at 65.8 percent, English at 64.6 percent, Filipino at 65.6 percent and Hekasi at 64.5 percent. Meanwhile, the mean test results for Science, at 58.9 percent, posted the lowest in the region’s achievement rates though it is still near mastery level.
The Division of Laoag City
surpassed all the Department of Education (DepEd) divisions in the region in
the 2004-2005 NAT as it posted a mean achievement rate of 70.1 percent that is
near mastery level. Results showed that
said division topped in Mathematics (72.8 percent) along with the Division of
Ilocos Norte, English (71.8 percent), Hekasi (70.1 percent) and Science (67.7
percent). In Filipino, it ranked fourth
in the region’s NAT with a mean percentage score of 68.1 percent. The mean
achievement rates for the five subjects
were all near mastery level.
On the other hand, the Division of
Alaminos City had the lowest average achievement rate in the region among its
Grade VI students at 46.1 percent, indicating low mastery level. The Division scored low mastery levels for
four out of the five subjects- 47.1 percent in Mathematics, 46.6 percent in
English, 44.8 percent in Hekasi and 41.1 percent in Science. For the subject Filipino, the Division
acquired a mean percentage score of 50.7 percent which is near mastery
level.
The NATs were administered by the
National Education Testing and Research Center (NETRC) to Grade VI students in
government schools in March 2005. The tests were designed to determine what
graduating students know and can do in five subject areas at the end of the
school year, namely: Mathematics, Science, English, Filipino and Hekasi/Araling
Panlipunan (AP). A score of 75 percent and over means that the student has
mastery of the subject; 50 percent to less than 75 percent, near mastery; and
below 50 percent means low mastery
