Region 1 Updates Its MDG Database

Data sources of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) indicators in Region 1 are in the process of updating their data to serve as basis in monitoring the progress of  attainment of the region’s MDGs. The updated data  will be submitted to the Regional Division of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), the designated repository of MDG indicators.  The data from the agencies will be used by the NSCB in updating the region’s MDG Dev Info database and in coming up with the Regional and Provincial MDG Watch which will be released in April 2007.  The MDG Watch is a handy publication which contains baseline data on the MDG indicators, 2015 target, latest available data,  and the probability of attaining the MDGs.

To improve the region’s MDG database, the Regional Development Council (RDC)  issued two resolutions in December 2006 in support to two resolutions earlier issued by the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC). The two resolutions issued were :  1)  RDC 1 Resolution No. 14, s. 2006 –  “Enjoining All Data Sources to Help Generate Unavailable MDG Indicators”; and 2) RDC 1 Resolution No. 15, s. 2006 -  “Enjoining All Data Sources of MDG Indicators at the Regional Level to Conduct Validation and Consultation Activities with their Central Offices Before the Release of MDG Data.”

The RDC Regional MDG Task Force also conducted a meeting on February 21, 2007 at the NEDA Regional I Conference Room in San Fernando City, La Union to discuss the region’s  2007 MDG action plan and review the region’s MDG indicators and targets. The Task Force is composed of representatives from NEDA, NSCB, DOH, DepEd, CHED, CHR, TESDA, DILG and provincial local government units.  The proposed additional MDG indicators and targets of the region will be presented to the RSCC during its 1st regular meeting tentatively scheduled on  April 2007.
