Three Region 1 Papers to be Presented During the 10th
NCS
Three papers from Region 1 will be
presented during the 10th National Convention on Statistics (NCS)
which will be held on October 1-2, 2007 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel,
Mandaluyong City.
The 1st paper entitled “Poverty Profiling in Ilocos Norte:
Methods Based on Livelihood System Approach, ” authored by Ms. Criselda
Balisacan of the Regional Center on Poverty Studies of the Mariano Marcos State
University, Batac, Ilocos Norte, is one
of the three invited papers which will be presented under the Luzon session.
The 2nd paper, “A Methodology in Predicting the Influence of
Climactic Variables on Crop Yield” by Ms. Herminia Tanguilig of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State
University, Bacnotan, La Union, has been considered as a contributed paper
under the session on Forecasting Techniques and Applications/Statistical Data
Analysis. The third paper is on statistical
concerns and issues at the subnational level, beyond the experiences of
Region1, which will be presented in a
panel discussion. Director Leonardo N.
Quitos, Jr., the NEDA I Regional
Director and Chair of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee
(RSCC), has been invited to write the
paper.
The NCS is being conducted every
three years by the Philippine Statistical System (PSS), spearheaded by the
National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), to : 1) provide a forum for practitioners and theoreticians in the
field of statistics to discuss prevailing issues and emerging development s
affecting the PSS; and 2) elicit the
cooperation and support of statisticians and professionals in related fields
from the government, academe and private sector towards a more responsive
statistical system.
