The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB)
Regional Division 1 conducted two batches of training on the DevInfo 5 software
for the sources of indicators for the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in the
region. The training is part of the “Program Monitoring, Database and
Rights-based MDGs” Project of the National Economic and Development
Authority (NEDA) Regional Office 1 with
NSCB as one of its co-partners and the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) providing the financial assistance.
The first
batch of the training was conducted on February 5-6, 2008 at the Gov. Justo O.
Orros Conference Hall, NEDA Regional Office 1, San Fernando City, La Union. It
was participated by the Provincial
Planning and Development Office (PPDO)
of La Union and 18 City/Municipal Planning and Development Offices
(C/MPDOs) of the province. La Union is
the pilot province of the project for the establishment of a provincial MDG
database. The second batch of the
training was conducted on February 7, 2008 in the same venue. It was attended by eight regional line agencies (DepEd, CHD-DOH,
NSO, NNC, DBM, DENR, DA and CHED), three PPDOs (Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur and
Ilocos Norte) and three CPDOs (Candon,
Vigan, Laoag).
The
computer-based training focused
on DevInfo application and data
administration. The participants were also briefed on the MDG indicators and
the suggested data flow of MDG indicators from municipal to regional
level. The lectures were supplemented
with exercises and workshops on the application of the DevInfo software using
MDG indicators. The staff of the NSCB RD
1 served as resource persons of the training.
After the training, the participants are expected
to: 1) install the DevInfo software in their respective offices; 2) establish a
database of the MDG indicators which they are generating; and 3) submit the database of MDG indicators
to the NSCB RD 1 for integration in the regional MDG database. The NSCB RD 1 is the designated repository
of MDG indicators in the region.
