RSCC I Calls for Submission of Statistics Month Calendar of Activities
Pursuant
to NSCB Memorandum Circular No.002-07 dated June 18, 2007, “Enjoining All Agencies of the Government at the National and
Subnational levels, and the Private Sector to Actively Participate in and
Support the celebration of the 18th National Statistics Month (NSM) in October 2007,” the Regional
Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) is requesting the various offices in the region including
the local government units to submit their calendar of activities for the
celebration of the 18th NSM.
The calendars should be
submitted to the RSCC through its secretariat, the NSCB Regional Division 1,
not later than August 15, 2007. The NSM activities could be in the form of fora, workshops/conferences, contests,
exhibits, trainings or related activities.
The agency submissions will be consolidated by the NSCB Regional
Division and these will be posted in
the website of the Division. The list of activities will also be disseminated
during the NSM Opening Ceremony in the region.
The
celebration of the NSM is in consonance with Presidential Proclamation No. 647,
series of 1990, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the NSM.” The
celebration of the NSM aims to:
1) promote, enhance and instill
nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics
to the different sectors of the society; and 2) ensure the support of the public in improving and enhancing the
quality and standard of statistics in the country. Proclamation No. 647 designated the NSCB as the over-all
coordinator of the NSM celebration in the country. On the other hand, NSCB
Memorandum Circular No. 002-07 designated the RSCC as the over-all coordinator
of the NSM celebration at the subnational level with the NSCB Regional Division
providing technical and administrative support.
The
celebration of the 18th NSM will revolve around the theme “Statistics and Actions: A Road to Better Life Through the
MDGs” (Estadistika At Karampatang Pagkilos: Daan Tungo sa Higit Na Magandang Buhay sa
Pamamagitan ng Mga Layuning Pang Kaunlaran sa Milenyo).
The
celebration of the 18th NSM was discussed during the 2nd
regular meeting of the RSCC on July 24, 2007 at the NEDA Regional Office 1, San
Fernando City, La Union. The common NSM
activities to be conducted by the RSCC were also approved during the meeting
including the funding requirements and sources of funds. The common activities include the conduct of
opening and closing ceremonies with statistical symposia and Search for Best
NSM Province and Activity.
