The Philippine Statistical Association (PSA): Region I
Chapter announced its various
activities in 2007 during the statistics seminar conducted on April 2, 2007 at
the World ORT Conference Room in San Fernando City, La Union. The PSA: Region I
Chapter plans to conduct the following
activities in 2007: 1) Regional
Statistics Quiz (Oct); 2) Teachers’ Training on Statistics (Oct-Nov); 3)
Publication of Newsletter (July and January); and 4) General Assembly and
Christmas Program (December). The
Chapter Council will also conduct bi-monthly meetings.
The half-day seminar, the first activity of the PSA: Region 1 Chapter in 2007, featured the following topics: 1) Introduction of the “Teachers’ Training
on Statistics”; 2) Understanding Surveys and Opinion Polls; and 3) Benefits of
Affiliating with PSA, Inc. Members of
the Board of Directors of the PSA, Inc.,
composing of Dr. Isidoro P. David, the PSA, Inc President, Dr. Zita
Albacea, PSA Secretary, and Ms.Ludivina Gador, PSA Treasurer; and BAS
Director, Mr. Romeo Recide,
served as resource persons during the seminar.
The seminar was highlighted by the
induction of the 2007-2008 set of officers of PSA: Region 1 Chapter with Dr.
David as inducting officer. The new set of officers of the Chapter are:

The induction was witnessed by
NEDA Regional Director and Chair of the
Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC), Mr. Leonardo N. Quitos,
Jr., and NSO Regional Director and RSCC Co-Chair, Engr. Alfredo D.Batoy, who
both serve as advisers of the PSA Chapter.
Representatives from offices in Region 1 such as the NSCB, BSP, DA, BAS,
BFAR, NEDA, NSO, DENR, Pangasinan
Provincial Government, Ilocos Norte Provincial Government, San Fernando City
Government and academic institutions attended the seminar.
The PSA, Inc. also announced
during the seminar the holding of the
Pilot Training Course on Teaching Basic Statistics on May 15-18, 2007 at the
SRTC Training Room, J & S Bldg., 104 Kalayaan Ave., Diliman, Quezon
City. Qualified participants are
teachers of basic statistics from the tertiary education level. Interested individuals could contact Ms.

The PSA is an association of
professionals who are interested in statistics. Its mission is to “Uplift
and advance the statistics profession. Encourage and promote the proper
application and interpretation of statistics in all fields of learning and
endeavors. Work for the improvement of
statistical literacy and education at all levels. Serve the public by providing
advice on current statistical issues and concerns.”
