Region I's agricultural production in the 3rd Quarter decreased by 6.35%, mainly due to the several typhoons that hit the region during the second semester of the year. In the third quarter of the year, 119,250 metric tons of crops were produced; in the same period last year 127,341 metric tons were produced. The 2nd quarter figure for 1998 amounted to 480,220. Palay production decreased by 15.05% (from 57,137 metric tons to 67,257 metric tons). The livestock and poultry subsector production was not spared as it posted a 20.29% decrease. Though only chicken production suffered, it drag down the other subsectors (cattle, hog, etc.) since chicken/poultry comprises a major part of this subsector. Chicken production went down from 2,894,679 metric tons to 2,251,632 metric tons.

The fishery subsector increased its output in the 3rd quarter. Municipal fishery production rallied an 18.29% increase (from 4,057 metric tons to 4,799 metric tons) pulling up commercial and aquaculture fishery production which both suffered a decrease.
