ILOCOS REGION’S GRDP REGISTERS A 2.5 PERCENT GROWTH IN 1999

The Ilocos Region’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant 1985 prices registered a 2.5 percent growth in 1999, lower than the previous year’s 4.3 percent growth. The GRDP is an aggregate measure of goods and services produced by the regional economy. The weak performance of the Industry Sector, which exhibited a negative 11.8 percent growth, contributed to the lower growth. However, the Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry (AFF) and Service sectors, which recorded a 7.2 and 4.7 percent growth, respectively, managed to dampen the effects of the decline.

The biggest contributors of this year’s GRDP are the AFF and the Service sectors, accounting for 41.9 and 41.5 percent, respectively, of the total economy of the region, only.
