EARTH’S POPULATION: SIX BILLION AND GROWING

The earth’s population is expected to reach six billion this October 12, 1999. In commemoration of this big event, everyone in coordination with the Commission on Population is enjoined to give special attention in the celebration focusing on the theme "Day of 6 Billion - A Time for Choices".

Of the expected six billion-earth population, Philippines will contribute 74.7 million or 1.2% of the total population. Region I’s projected population of 4.1 million for 1999 represents about 0.1% of the total world population. Of the 4.1 million for 1999, 2.0 million are women and 2.1 million are men. Region I’s population growth rate decreases by at least one percent annually from the projected population data from 1996 to 2005.
