Total Family Members Served by the DSWD Increased in 1999 The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region I served 37,094 family members in 1999. This registered an increase of 28.9 percent from the previous year (28,768). Majority of the family members served belonged to the 60 and above age group (23,697). The women clientele of DSWD were greater in number than the men (20,988 women against 16,106 men). The women outnumbered the men in all age groups except in the 15 to 17 age group. Among the clients served by the DSWD were the children in difficult situation and socially disadvantaged women. A total of 762 children (438 girls and 324 boys) under different categories were served by DSWD. Highest among the categories were youth offenders (292) and children exploited/abused (256). Meanwhile, the agency served 948 socially disadvantaged women under various categories. Most of the disadvantaged women served were the women in especially difficult circumstances (474) and victims of trafficking (184).
