PRIVATE INVESTMENTS IN THE ILOCOS REGION DECLINED
IN 3rd QUARTER 2000

Region I’s private investments dropped by 83.2 percent in the 3rd quarter of 2000, from P6,353.5M in 3rd quarter 1999 to P1,069.0M in 2000. The decrease was attributed to the 81.8 slip on investments recorded for Business Name Registration. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2000, a 59.2 percent decrease on investment was also noted. The decline in the region’s investment could be due to the political and security situation in the country.

The 91.1 percent drop on investments in Pangasinan contributed to the region’s lower investment performance. Investments in the other provinces expanded at 527.9 percent for Ilocos Sur, 39.0 percent for La Union and 34.2 percent for Ilocos Norte.

Note: Data covered for investments include Board of Investment (BOI), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Business Name Registration.

Source of Basic Data: Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Regional Office I
