| StatNews Posted 03 August 2000 Two Typhoons Hit Ilocos Region in July 2000 Two typhoons namely, Edeng and Ditang, simultaneously plagued the Ilocos Region last July 3-7, 2000 affecting 79,139 families. Likewise, the typhoons have claimed 17 lives, injured four persons and left five individuals missing. The total damages amounted to PhP 343.2 million, P227.7 million for infrastructure and PhP 115.5 million for agriculture. Among the four provinces in the region, Pangasinan was the hardest hit as 66,332 or 83.8 percent of the total families were affected. Moreover, property damages in said province amounted to Php169.6 million (49.4 percent), PhP 66.4 million for infrastructure and PhP 103.2 million for agriculture. Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte was the least affected province, with only 1,514 (1.9 percent) families affected and PhP 11.1 million (3.2 percent) of total damages in agriculture (PhP 1.1 million) and infrastructure (PhP 10.0 million).
