ENDORSING THE CONDUCT OF A STATISTICS APPRECIATION SEMINAR FOR THE MEDIA

WHEREAS, the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) generates a large number of data either through the conduct of censuses and surveys or part of the administrative or regulatory functions, or through the production of derived statistics as a result of the processing of available data;

WHEREAS, there is a need for the statistics generated by the PSS to be disseminated and communicated to its stakeholders to ensure their maximum utilization;

WHEREAS, the media play a critical role in the dissemination and communication of information since they could package information in several ways for different types of audiences and they have the machinery to reach various sectors of the society down to the grassroots level;

WHEREAS, it has been observed that few media practitioners feature articles containing statistical information and this could be due to their lack of knowledge on the meaning of the statistical figures and/or their lack of appreciation and understanding of the importance of statistics to various data users;

WHEREAS, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) came up with a proposal for the conduct of a statistics appreciation seminar for the media to address the above concerns;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, to endorse the conduct of a statistics appreciation seminar for the media;

RESOLVED, FURTHER, to request the support of the RDC in the conduct of the seminar through its provision of financial assistance and endorsement of the seminar to concerned media organizations in the Ilocos Region;
