REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM (DOT) TO INCLUDE DATA ON TOURIST’S EXPENDITURES IN THE REPORT FORMS OF THEIR NEW TOURISM DATA GENERATION SYSTEM

WHEREAS, tourism is considered as one of the major sustainable socio-economic activities since it is an important engine of investment, employment and economic growth;

WHEREAS, tourism statistics are needed to quantify tourism’s contribution to the economy and provide vital information that aid in the planning, program and policy formulation and decision-making of both the public and private stakeholders for the improvement of the tourism industry;

WHEREAS, the data on tourist’s expenditures is important to quantify the contribution of tourists in our economy by the money they spend during their stay in the region;

WHEREAS, in response to the provision of the Republic Act 9593, also known as the 2009 Tourism Act of the Philippines, mandating the Department of Tourism (DOT) to formulate and implement strategic statistical development plans, DOT is piloting a new tourism data generation system to improve tourism statistics;

WHEREAS, the DOT is providing some tourism data but its existing data generation system does not generate data on tourist’s expenditures with subnational disaggregation;

WHEREAS, the new tourism data generation system of DOT aims to improve the completeness of tourism statistics in the region, however, tourist’s expenditures were not yet processed in the report forms generated by the new system;

WHEREAS, tourist’s expenditures can be captured through the Gross Receipts Sales which are accomplished by Accommodation Establishments (AEs) through form DAE-1B of the new data generation system of DOT;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, to request the DOT to include tourist’s expenditures in the report forms of their new data generation system;

RESOLVED FURTHER, to request the Regional Development Council (RDC) to endorse this resolution to the DOT Regional Office I;

RESOLVED FINALLY, to request the DOT Regional Office I to endorse this resolution to the DOT Central Office (CO) and to monitor DOT CO’s reply for reporting to RSCC;
