The province was awarded a Certificate of Recognition and P 3,000 cash for winning the contest.

The forum was held in Alcala, Pangasinan through the support of the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO) and the municipal government.  The forum , which focused on this year’s theme “Empowering Consumers through Responsive Energy Statistics”, included presentations on the proper installation and use of electrical gadgets and appliances, energy savings tips, statistical data on fires, accidents and deaths relative to the improper use of gadgets and electrical appliances (safety measures) and other energy-related concerns.     The symposium was attended  by 540 students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and municipal and barangay officials from eight (8) nearby barangays.  The DepEd division shouldered the materials for the activity while the municipal council provided snacks for the participants and speakers. The winners were announced during the 4th RSCC regular meeting on December 13, 2006.  The prizes of the winners were also awarded during the meeting.  The NSM Technical Working Group, composed of representatives from the regional offices of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, National Economic and Development Authority, National Statistical Coordination Board, National Statistics Office, and Department of Interior and Local Government, evaluated the entries for both categories and recommended the winners.  The winners were approved by the RSCC through a referendum last December 11, 2006.

The Search for the Best NSM Province and Activity, now on its third year, was initiated by the RSCC to: 1) recognize outstanding participation in the NSM celebration; 2) serve as incentive to participating individuals and agencies in the observance of the NSM; 3) encourage wider participation to the NSM celebration; and 4) promote the conduct of activities that will further the objectives and spirit of the NSM celebration.  The sponsors for this year’s NSM contests were the RSCC member agencies  and the Regional Development Council I.

The Search for the Best NSM Province is open to all the four provinces of Region 1 while the Search for the Best NSM Activity is open to all line agencies, academic institutions and private entities.
