NSCB Releases CIF: Ilocos Norte
The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) Regional
Division (RD) I releases the maiden issue of the “Countryside in Figures (CIF):
Ilocos Norte (2006 edition). ” This is in line with NSCB’s commitment to
provide relevant and more disaggregated statistics at the local level.
The publication contains relevant statistics/indicators
comparing the performance of the 22 municipalities and one (1) city of the
province of Ilocos Norte. Comparisons
among the city/municipalities of the province were made easier with the use of
GIS technology in the data presentation.
Computer-generated thematic maps were included in some of the sectors.
The CIF: Ilocos Norte
is a useful statistical portfolio for local planners, investors, and other
groups interested in La Union as a venue for investment and development. Through the CIF, the Local Government Units
(LGUs), the national government and other key stakeholders can determine the
appropriate intervention programs that should be introduced in the province,
city and municipalities to improve the conditions of the people.
The maiden issue contains indicators with provincial and
city/municipal disaggregation for the following sectors: general information,
governance, finance, income and prices, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism,
transportation and communication, education, health and public order. For indicators with municipal disaggregation,
the municipalities were ranked from highest to lowest to determine the
municipalities with the best and worst conditions. The rank of the province nationwide/regionwide was also included
for selected indicators.
The publication was made possible through the joint efforts
of the NSCB RD 1 and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, specially the
Research, Evaluation and Statistics Division of the Provincial Planning and
Development Office (PPDO).
The CIF: Ilocos Norte
is the provincial version of the “The Philippines Countryside in Figures”, an
annual publication of the NSCB Central Office which presents the latest
available general information and statistical indicators on governance, family
income and expenditures, labor and employment, etc. of the 79 provinces and
selected cities in the country.
The publication is
now available at the National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) library,
which is open to the public for free from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mondays to
Fridays. The NSIC is a one-stop shop of
statistical information and services managed by the NSCB. The NSIC Region 1 Branch is located at 2/F
L.M. Chan Bldg., 663 Quezon Avenue, San Fernando City, La Union. Personal copies of the publication (printed
