FNRI Conducts Anthropometric Survey

How does height relate with weight? Does height affect the weight of a human being?

These, and more questions would find answers soon as the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST) will conduct an anthropometric survey this July through November 2001.

Implemented every 2-3 years, the survey aims at providing a regular and updated data set on the nutritional status of Filipino children that is vital in drawing up sub-national nutrition plans and programs and the re-appraisal of the country’s overall human development plan. It will cover 597 barangays and 12,537 children aged 0-10 years, selected statistically from the 78 provinces of the country, including 17 cities and municipalities of the National Capital Region (NCR).

In the Ilocos Region, the tentative schedule of the pre-survey are as follows: Ilocos Norte, July 26-27; Ilocos Sur, July 30-31; La Union, July 23-25 and Pangasinan, August 7-10. Actual survey, meanwhile, have the following tentative schedule: Ilocos Norte, August 17-22; Ilocos Sur, August 22-27; La Union, August 9-17; and Pangasinan, August 23 – September 1.
