| StatNews Press Release February 06, 2001 DA-ILIARC Study Gets RSCC Clearance The Department of Agriculture - Ilocos Integrated Agricultural Research Center’s (DA-ILIARC) study, "Assessment on the Adoption of Paddy Rice Technology Along the Agno River in Pangasinan" was given clearance by the Technical Subcommittee on Survey Design (TSSD) of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC). The study aims to assess the adoption of the component technologies of paddy rice - rice cropping pattern by farmers in Pangasinan along the Agno River basin during the cropping calendar year 1999. It will cover 400 farmers, chosen through a proportional random sampling, of the 15 municipalities along the Agno River. The 15 municipalities are the following: Asingan, Balungao, Sta. Maria, San Manuel, San Nicolas, Tayug, Rosales, Villasis, Santo Tomas, Bayambang, Mangatarem, Basista, Aguilar, Bugallon, and Labrador. Specifically, the study seeks to identify the socio-economic profile of the respondents, determine the level of adoption of the component technologies of paddy rice-rice cropping along the Agno River basin, assess the degree of seriousness of the problems encountered by the respondents in the adoption of component technologies, and determine the significant relationship between the socio-economic factors and the set of variables which are level of adoption of component technologies, and problems encountered by farmers on the adoption of said technologies. The study has a total cost of P 60,000.00. Survey operations started on the 2nd week of October 2000 and ended on January 26, 2001 while the result is expected to be released on March 29, 2001. The clearance of the survey was granted by the RSCC in line with its Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS). This is a mechanism instituted by the NSCB through Memorandum Circular No. 4-88 to: (1) ensure sound design for data collection; (2) minimize the burden placed upon respondents; (3) effect economy in statistical data collection; (4) achieve better coordination of government statistical activities; and (5) inform the private sector and the public in general that a government survey operation has passed clearance and enjoin their cooperation in the conduct of the said survey. The SSRCS is being implemented in the region by the RSCC. For further inquiries, please contact Ms. Irenea B. Ubungen or Ms. Babylyn Abulencia of NSCB Regional Unit I at telephone number (072) 888 2160 or (072) 700 3035 or at nscbru1@sflu.com.
