Region I Celebrates 23rd National Statistics Month

Region I will celebrate the 23rd National Statistics Month (NSM) this October 2012 with the theme:  “Monitoring Progress on Decent Work Through Statistics: Pathway to Inclusive Growth (Pagsubaybay sa Pagsulong ng Marangal na Hanapbuhay sa Pamamagitan ng Estadistika:  Landas Tungo sa Pag-unlad ng Lahat)”

 

The Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) Region I, the overall coordinator of the NSM celebration in the region, issued RSCC I Resolution No. 4, series of 2012 enjoining all Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), academic institutions and private sector to support the NSM celebration in the region thru their implementation of their own NSM activities and their participation in the RSCC common activities.  Among the RSCC common activities are the Regional Opening and Closing Ceremonies, statistical contests for academic institutions, Search for Best NSM Province and Statistics Congress. The contests for secondary and tertiary students, which aim to increase the statistical awareness and appreciation of the students, include the Jingle-Making Contest, Poster-Slogan Making Contest, Essay Writing Contest, Oratorical Contest, and Statistics Quiz. The regional contests will be participated by the Provincial Champions.  The regional contests will be sponsored by the Regional Development Council, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, National Economic and Development Authority, National Statistics Office, and Philippine Statistical Association. The month-long celebration will officially start on October 2, 2012, 1:00 PM thru the Regional Opening Ceremony at the 4th Floor Administrative Building, Bangko Sental ng Pilipinas (BSP), San Fernando City, La Union to be hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).  The opening ceremony will be graced by an official from DOLE Central Office. The Bureau of Labor and Employment (BLE) and Regional Tripartite Wages Productivity Board (RTWPB) will also be making a presentation on Labor Market Information and Wage Order RB 1-15, respectively.  The opening ceremony will be attended by various participants from government, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, and business establishments.

 

To promote the conduct of activities that will further the objectives and spirit of the NSM celebration at the local levels, the RSCC will select the Best 23rd NSM Province.  The provinces will be evaluated based on their implementation of NSM activities and their performance in the different contest endorsed by RSCC for academic institutions. The Best 23rd NSM Province, together with the regional champions of the contests for academic institutions, will be awarded during the Regional Closing Ceremony on October 30, 2012, 1:00 PM at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, San Fernando City, La Union.  The Regional Closing Ceremony will be hosted by the BSP.

 

The RSCC will conduct the 2nd Regional Statistics Congress on October 25, 2012 in collaboration with the Philippine Statistical Association (PSA) Region I Chapter and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The statistics congress will involve the presentation of papers on various statistics topics such as: poverty statistics, labor statistics, education statistics, governance statistics and agriculture statistics.  This will be attended by participants from various RLAs, LGUs, academic institutions, and private sector from Regions I, II, III and CAR.

 

RSSC will also conduct its post-tree planting activity at San Francisco, Agoo, La Union on October 26, 2012 as a follow-up activity of its tree-planting acitivity last August 31, 2012. The RSCC tree planting activity aims to support the implementation of the government’s National Greening Program (NGP). The activity serves an avenue in bringing together statisticians/designated statisticians and/or representatives of the RSCC member agencies in a more fruitful activity.

 

The NSM is being celebrated by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 647, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month”, issued on September 20, 1990 by then President Corazon C. Aquino.
