Ilocos Region's economy suffers reversal

The economy of the Ilocos Region suffered a reversal in growth by negative 1.0 percent in 2009 froma 2.0 percent growth in 2008.

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) Regional Division (RD) 1 announces the holding of a press conference on the performance of the economy of Ilocos Region for the year 2009 with NEDA Regional Office 1 Assistant Regional Director Nestor Rillon as resource person on August 5, 2010 (Thursday) 10:00 a.m, at Chowking Restaurant Function Room, San Fernando City, La Union. NSCB RD 1 Head Irenea B. Ubungen will make the presentation.

TOP REGIONS, TOP PROVINCES

ARMM is the most heavily dependent on IRA where 93-94% of its funds come from. Region VIII and CARAGA also consistently depend (at 84-86%) on the IRA for their funds.

Not only do NCR, Regions IV-A and III spend the most, both total and per capita, in education, culture & sports/manpower development, they are also the three regions which allocate the biggest shares of their income to education.
