ADOPTION OF THE OFFICIAL POPULATION PROJECTIONS AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL

WHEREAS, projections of the population at various levels of disaggregation are effective tools for estimating the need for specific government programs and services;

WHEREAS, the Technical Committee (TC) on Population and Housing Statistics, thru the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Population Projections, was tasked to prepare a new set of population projections for the Philippines to serve as basis for policy setting, plan formulation and program development;

WHEREAS, an assessment of the recent demographic changes in the country was undertaken with the data inputs drawn from the results of the 1990 Census of Population and Housing and related surveys;

WHEREAS, the TWG has initially come up with the national population projections by five-year age groups and by sex for the years 1992 to 2000, together with the key demographic indicators for the same period;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve the set of population projections prepared by the TWG and endorsed by the TC as the official figures to be utilized for planning purposes.
