PUBLICATION CONTENTS & USES

It is an instrument formulated and maintained to strengthen the planning system by providing the means by which economic progress and social change can be monitored and measured more effectively. Specifically, the indicator system seeks to monitor the achievement of the economic and social development goals set forth in the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP). Thus, its framework is revised each time a new plan is formulated.

It contains about a hundred indicators grouped according to the development goal areas and sub-areas of concern identified in the MTPDP, these are: population, nutrition, health, education, shelter and urban development, agriculture, agrarian reform, agricultural research and development, environmental sustainability, energy, transportation, communication, sewerage facilities and treatment system, governance, industry and services sector, Gross National Product/Gross Domestic Product, labor and employment, poverty, and monetary, financial and external accounts.
