StatCalendar

2003 Agency Statistical Calendar (ASC)
(Updated 19 November 2004)

Statistical CalendarThe first batch of the 2003 Agency Statistical Calendar (ASC) of national government agencies and instrumentalities is now available in the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) website - http://www.nscb.gov.ph/pss/statcalendar/.

The ASC has been compiled based on the reports of agencies to the NSCB. The release of the ASC is being advocated as a good practice in data dissemination with the objective of providing relevant, timely, useful and accessible data for decision-making of various stakeholders and data users. This is in line with the Government Statistics Accessibility Program (GSAP) of the PSS which aims to improve the accessibility of statistical information and services. The goals of the GSAP are to facilitate faster and sounder decision-making by making available timely and relevant data to users and to maximize the benefits from existing data collection in government.

The ASC is an important instrument for disseminating information on the statistical activities of the members of the PSS and the corresponding outputs in the form of data, report or publication to be generated. It contains information on the output of the statistical activity and its frequency, level of disaggregation, and expected date and mode of release, and focal point for output dissemination.

The statistical activities are grouped into two major categories– current/regular and proposed/ developmental activities and are further classified into:

(a) data production/ improvement activities which refer to the generation of statistics/data thru surveys, administrative-based statistics and derived statistics as well as the maintenance of databases and related activities;

(b) institution building activities aimed at strengthening the statistical capability of the agency which may include training of statistical personnel, seminars and conferences;

(c) statistical research and development activities that are directed towards the improvement or updating of methodologies for production of quality statistics, development of data systems or procedures, development of indicators for planning, monitoring and evaluation, research studies to address current/emerging concerns in the statistical system, and innovations in statistical concepts, methods, and procedures of advancements in information and communication technologies; and

(d) data dissemination activities which are designed to provide information to data users and other stakeholders in the form of publications, fora, web dissemination, and other similar activities.
