Philippines to Host Regional Workshop on Data Dissemination

The Philippine Statistical System (PSS) through the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) is co-hosting the Regional Workshop on Data Dissemination and Communication (RWDDC) with the United Nation Statistics Division (UNSD). The event will be held on June 20 to 22, 2012 at the Traders Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The RWDDC is part of a global series of workshops on data dissemination and communication that aims to provide a forum for sharing national practices and experiences in the dissemination of statistical data and metadata. The Workshop will review emerging trends, innovative approaches and technological tools employed in the dissemination of data. The event will provide a basis for assessing existing national dissemination strategies as well as technologies used by national statistics offices. It will also aid in taking stock of national capacities and challenges for meeting the increasing requirements of users, and in identifying good practices and lessons learned in the dissemination and communication of data.
The participants of this Workshop will include representatives from national statistical offices of Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Aside from the UNSD, other international organizations participating include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21), and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP). Country/national focal agency on data dissemination will also take part in the workshop.
During the opening ceremonies of the Workshop, NSCB Secretary General Romulo A. Virola and UNSD Director Paul Cheung will deliver the welcome and opening remarks, respectively. Acting Socio-Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director General Arsenio M. Balisacan has been invited to deliver a message. The Keynote address will be done by Alan Smith of the Data Visualisation Centre, Office of National Statistics, United Kingdom.
The workshop as co-organized by the NSCB with the UNSD is made possible with the support of the following major statistical agencies: National Statistics Office (NSO), Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Statistical Research and Training Center (SRTC).
