NSCB Releases 2011 Philippine Statistical Yearbook
(PR-201110-NS1-15, Posted 17 October 2011)

psy2011As its contribution towards enhancing the country’s competitiveness amongst knowledge-based economies especially at this challenging time in history, the National Statistical Coordination Board releases the 2011 Philippine Statistical Yearbook (PSY). The said publication is used by policy and decision makers to guide them in crafting an effective development agenda. Other NSCB stakeholders rely on PSY in their strategic planning, programming, and project formulation, business/investment research/feasibility studies, and even on media news articles/investigative story writing.

Each chapter of the PSY starts with a brief introduction which explains the coverage and the data sources. It presents in time-series, historical information about the country’s social and economic environment. It also contains data that are disaggregated in different dimensions and includes a glossary of terms that provides the definition of selected statistical terms not widely understood by the general public. The statistics are based on information gathered in censuses and surveys, as well as from administrative data, which government agencies have made available for statistical purposes. The statistics in the PSY have been generated in accordance with principles, standards and classifications that are in line with international recommendations and guidelines adapted to local conditions.

The 2011 Edition of the PSY contains data on 19 subject areas to meet the needs of a wide range of data users such as: government agencies/units, non-government organizations, civil society, business firms, entrepreneurs, students, international institutions, and the general public.

For this Edition, the PSY has 291 updated tables and included new tables on Distribution of Pollutants by Type of Emission in the National Capital Region, 1990 to 2009, Number of Establishments that Resorted to Permanent Closure/Retrenchment due to Economic Reasons,  Number of Permanently Displaced Workers by Region, 2008 to 2010, and the Number of Beneficiaries Served by Sector, by Sex, and by  Region of the  “Pantawid Pamilya ng Pilipino Program” (4Ps) 2008 to 2010.  It also features the latest MDG Watch, a compilation of multi sectoral statistics on the Philippine Progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
