(PR-201002-NS1-04, Posted 16 February 2010)
Rizal remains as the most densely populated province among the 81 provinces in the country with a population density of 1,916 persons per square kilometer as of 2007. On the other hand, the province of Apayao, with only 23 persons per square kilometer is the least densely populated province in the Philippines. Meanwhile, Camiguin is the only province with 100 percent concrete national roads since 2006 while Apayao has the lowest percentage of concrete national roads at 10.0% as of December 2008.
These statistics and other information on various economic and social indicators of the country’s provinces can be found in the 2008 Philippine Countryside in Figures (PCIF) publication released by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB). The PCIF describes the state of the country’s 81 provinces in terms of various indicators on governance; income and expenditures; labor and employment; prices; finance; agriculture; health; education; communication; infrastructure; tourism; transportation; energy; and public order, safety and justice. The provinces/cities were ranked according to these indicators to provide comparisons in terms of performance in different areas of interest.
The 2008 Edition contains 50 updated tables out of the 70 existing indicators. GIS technology was also used in data presentation in the form of thematic maps, which are included in the relevant chapters of the publication.
The production, printing and released of the PCIF publication is a commitment of the NSCB in response to the demand of our various data users for more relevant local statistics.
Copies of the PCIF are available for sale at the National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) located at the Ground Floor, Midland Buendia Building, 403 Senator Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.
