NSCB Now Accepts Registration for the 11th NCS in October
(PR-2010-NS1-06, Posted 27 April 2010)

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), on behalf of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS), is now calling for participants to the forthcoming 11th National Convention on Statistics (NCS) to be held on October 4-5, 2010 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel in Mandaluyong City. Held every three years, the Convention provides a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences in the field of statistics and discussing prevailing statistical developments, issues and challenges in the PSS. It further aims to elicit the cooperation and support of statisticians and professionals in related fields from the government, academe and private sector towards a more responsive statistical system.  This year, the 11th NCS will cover a wide range of topics that are deemed relevant and critical in the new millennium and in an information-oriented economy. The event coincides with the opening of the 21st National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in October and the holding of the Statistical Information Management Exhibition or SIMEX 2010, a commercial exhibition showcasing various exhibitor’s information management products, facilities and services.

The 11th NCS involves simultaneous presentation in different scientific sessions of papers that dwell on various statistical topics. For the two-day event, about 38 sessions for the presentation of at least 100 papers including highly relevant and emerging subjects on statistics, risk management/analysis, business intelligence, data mining, and market research, among others will be organized. The proposed topics for the plenary sessions will deal on climate change and the local initiatives to address this global problem, security statistics, and on how Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) works as a tool to strengthen local statistical system. To be invited as plenary session speakers are: 1) Dr. Hans Rosling of the International Health at Karolinska Institute, Sweden and Director of the Gapminder Foundation; 2) Governor Joey Salceda of Albay Province; 3) Governor Vilma Santos Recto of Batangas Province; and, 4) Former Undersecretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) Antonio Santos.
