Names of Three LGUs Corrected in the PSGC in the First Quarter of 2009
(PR-200906-PP2-03, Posted 29 June 2009)
Corrections in the names of three local government units (LGUs) were reflected in the Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) in the first quarter of 2009, as follows:
These corrections were done based on the requests made by the concerned LGUs through the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the National Statistics Office (NSO) and as agreed upon in the interagency Technical Working Group on Geographic Classification and Technical Committee on Statistical Standards and Classifications of the NSCB. Reference documents as basis for the corrections include Republic Act No. 3278 - "An Act Creating the City of Caloocan" approved on June 17, 1961 for Caloocan City, Executive Order No. 308 dated March 27, 1932 for the Municipality of Mataasnakahoy, and the plebiscite conducted by the COMELEC ratifying the creation of Barangay Batucan on February 28, 1998.
With these changes for the first quarter of 2009, the number of regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays as of March 31, 2009 remains the same as in the last quarter of 2008:
