NSCB Creates Interagency Committee
on Statistical Information Management and Dissemination

To improve statistical information management and dissemination in the Philippine Statistical System (PSS), the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) approved through Memorandum Order No. 001 Series of 2009, the creation of an Interagency Committee on Statistical Information Management and Dissemination (IAC-SIMD) during its Executive Board quarterly meeting held last February 11, 2009 at the NEDA sa Pasig.
The IAC-SIMD will serve as a forum for discussion and resolution of concerns and issues in the areas of statistical information management and dissemination. Among its functions are : 1) Review current policies and mechanisms on statistical information management and dissemination and recommend possible consolidation/enhancements/ improvements; 2)Formulate principles, policies and guidelines on statistical information management, sharing, dissemination, and utilization to ensure accessibility and timeliness of statistical products and services; and 3) Identify and recommend continuing capacity building programs for the PSS and stakeholders of statistics in the areas of statistical information management and dissemination.
The newly created IAC will be composed of the Directors of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) and the National Statistics Office (NSO) as Chairperson and Co Chairperson, respectively. Directors from the following agencies will sit as members of the IAC : Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS), Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES), Statistical Research and Training Center (SRTC), Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), National Computer Center (NCC), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA). Representatives from the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) complete the composition of the IAC.
The organizational meeting of the said interagency committee was held on February 27, 2009 at the NSCB to discuss the scope and coverage of their work, terms of reference, programs and activities, among others.
The NSCB Executive Board formulates policy measures in the form of resolutions and memorandum orders designed to introduce new statistical frameworks and activities, enhance existing methodologies, and improve the quality and accessibility of government-produced statistics, among others.
