One Municipality created in the First Quarter of 2008

Only one municipality was created in the country in the first quarter of 2008. Thus, the number of municipalities increased, from 1,494 as of December 31, 2007 to 1,495 as of March 31, 2008.
The Municipality of TABUAN-LASA and its twelve barangays, in the province of Basilan, ARMM was created pursuant to Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 187 and which was ratified through a plebiscite conducted by the COMELEC on March 29, 2008.
The 12 barangays of the new municipality came from the municipality of Sumisip, Basilan, ARMM which comprises the following: Barangays Babag (Babuan Island), Balanting, Boloh-boloh, Bukut-Umus, Kaumpurnah, Lanawan, Pisak-pisak, Saluping, Suligan (Babuan Island), Sulloh (Tapiantana), Tambulig Buton, and Tong-Umus.
With this update, the number of regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays as of March 31, 2008 is as follows:
