Press Release
Total Gross Revenue Index Surged 11.4% in Q4 2004
(PR-200502-PAD-02, Posted 29 April 2005)
For the fourth quarter of 2004, total gross revenue index surged by 11.7 percent as all sectors of the economy reported expansions in gross revenues during the period. Similarly, compensation index went up by 7.7 percent while employment index posted a turn around growth of 2.3 percent from a negative 1.5 percent growth in the same period last year. These are based on the April 2005 issue of the Quarterly Economic Indices (QEI) of the Philippines.
The QEI is a publication released by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) to provide users with measures of growth in production, gross revenue, employment, and compensation in the various sectors of the economy. Specifically, indicators included in the QEI are meant to guide users for more meaningful analysis of current economic situation. Indices on compensation per employee, for example, can be used as deflators to express a current value in real terms, as bases for industry wage level / rate determination, forecasting or projection. The sectors covered in the QEI are Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry, Mining and Quarrying, Manufacturing, Construction, Electricity and Water, Trade, Transport and Communication, Finance, Real Estate, and Private Services.
The NSCB acknowledges the support and cooperation of and the valuable assistance provided by data producers for the quarterly compilation of the QEI which include: National Statistics Office (NSO), Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS), Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), Forest Management Bureau (FMB), Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Department of Energy (DOE), and National Power Corporation (NPC).
