NSCB Releases the
2000 Report on the Philippine Human Development Index       View Indicator Page
(Posted Jan. 21, 2003)

The 2000 Report on the Philippine Human Development Index (HDI) is now available at the National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB).  This is the second report of the NSCB on HDI since the institutionalization of the generation of the index at the NSCB in 1997.  The first report was released in March 2000.  The HDI report is released every three years.

The report provides information on the progress of human development in the provinces of the country on three aspects of human development:  1) the aspect of health or longevity, as measured by life expectancy; 2) knowledge, as measured by enrolment and literacy rates; and 3) standard of living, as measured by the real per capita income.  The publication is intended for planners and policy-makers especially at the local government level.  Though the HDI may not capture all the facets of human development, the comparative performance of the provinces in terms of the HDI included in the report will serve monitoring and evaluation purposes.

For further inquiries, please contact Ms. Severa  B.  De  Costo of the NSCB at telephone number 896-53-90 or at  her email address:  sb.decosto@nscb.gov.ph.
