Objectives

With recognition of the varying levels of statistical capacity of the NSAs and the diversified means of measuring poverty statistics among countries, at least in the Asia and Pacific Region, the Conference primarily aims to establish a convergence mechanism for discussing and assessing the preparedness of the NSAs in generating official poverty measurement and to formulate an integrated work plan for institutionalizing the regular compilation of official poverty statistics by the NSAs for the periodic/progressive assessment of the MDGs.

The Conference will focus on the:

1. sharing and discussion of selected country practices and methodologies for measurement/compilation of official poverty statistics/indicators;

2. presentation and discussion of concepts and methodologies on other poverty measurement concerns

3. discussion and formulation of an integrated plan for the regular compilation by the national statistical agencies of official poverty statistics for the monitoring of the MDG to reduce poverty by half by the year 2015.
