Poverty Statistics

NSCB Maps the Country's Poorest Provinces

Indicators for Poverty Mapping

The indicators used by NSCB in constructing the maps for Laguna and Albay were based on the Minimum Basic Needs (MBN) Indicators, which have been derived thru inter-agency collaboration. However, appropriate proxy/additional indicators available in the province were also used in the absence of/in addition to the MBN-identified indicators.

The MBN-based priority indicators are as follows:

2. New born with birthweight of at least 2.5 kg.
3. Percent of pre-school children moderately and severely underweight

5. Micronutrient Deficiency (Iron, Vitamin A and Iodine)

B. HEALTH

1. Infant mortality rate
2. Child mortality rate (under 5 yrs old)
3. Number and ratio of medical and other health workers to population

C. WATER AND SANITATION

1. Access to potable water

D. PEACE AND ORDER/PUBLIC SAFETY

2. Number of victims of crime against property
