Poverty Statistics

NSCB Maps the Country's Poorest Provinces

Future Plans

  1. In 2004, the NSCB, in cooperation with the LGUs, intends to come up with poverty maps covering the rest of the provinces subject to availability of financial resources.

  2. For the 2004 poverty mapping activities of the NSCB, PPDOs of covered provinces shall be requested to review their data submissions carefully to avoid data inconsistencies and extreme values.

  3. The NSCB shall promote statistical capacity building for the LGUs and other concerned agencies to learn and improve the present system. After undertaking these poverty mapping activities, the NSCB shall provide technical assistance on the poverty mapping methodology and technology to the LGUs subject to availability of resources and on a first come first serve basis. On the other hand, the LGUs are expected to institutionalize these activities through regular data collection, processing and production of poverty maps.

  4. For the regular compilation of the core indicators for poverty mapping, the NSCB shall consider the inclusion of these indicators in the proposed System of Designated Statistics for LGUs.
