Best Online Statistical Information Dissemination System ContestBACKGROUND:
The 19th National Statistics Month (NSM) Steering Committee, thru the initiative of the NSM Sub-Committee on Programs and Awards, has approved the launching of a new contest, the Best Online Statistical Information Dissemination Contest. It is designed to promote and enhance good practices in statistical information dissemination. Moreover, the activity is in line with one of the objectives of the NSM, i.e., “to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country”, specifically, on the area of disseminating statistics to the public.
DESCRIPTION:
The Contest gives due importance to the dissemination of demand-driven statistics in governance through the use of ICT. As such, it is open to all government agencies that own and operate web-enabled information dissemination systems. The Contest focuses on the impact of the system; that is, how the system is best able to provide its users with the required information. Other parameters include sustainability, timeliness, and content. The Department of Trade and Industry, the host for the 19th NSM Opening Ceremony, will sponsor the cash prize amounting to P25,000 for the winning entry.
OBJECTIVES:
To give recognition to government agencies which develop and implement a web-enabled system to deliver statistical information, in particular, and public service, in general; and
To promote and improve statistical information sharing and dissemination between and among partner-agencies and stakeholders through the use of ICT.

- Plaque of Recognition
For the two runner-ups
- Plaques of Recognition
CONTEST RULES
ELIGIBILITY:
The contest is open to all government agencies which maintain a web-enabled system which are:
- Operational starting January 2007 up to August 15, 2008
- Contains demand-driven / user-oriented statistics
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:
- Impact (70%) – measures how the system is best able to provide its users with the required information, e.g., functionalities, features, and innovativeness of the system
- Sustainability (10%) – existence of a maintenance program to ensure the continuous operation of the system
- Timeliness (10%) - the public are informed and the data are disseminated at the earliest possible time
- Content (10%) – levels of detail are adapted to the needs of the users, i.e., demand-driven
JUDGING PROCESS:
- All entries will be screened to validate information indicated in the entry form.
- Entries which passed the screening will be required to present their systems to the panel of judges to be selected by the 19th NSM Steering Committee.
- The top three finalists will present their systems during the NSM Opening Ceremony.
- The winning entry will be announced after the presentation.
- The cash prize and plaque for the winner and the plaques for the two runner-ups will be awarded during the same event.
SUBMISSION:
- The agency must submit a fully accomplished entry form through e-mail to nsm@nscb.gov.ph on or before September 17, 2008.
- Multiple entries per agency are allowed.
