Actual foreign direct investments in the Balance of Payments (BOP)
FDI inflows or non-residents investments, as compiled by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in the Balance of Payments (BOP) contracted by 39.8 percent with a net inflow of PhP 17.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007 from PhP 28.9 billion recorded in the same quarter last year.
Of the PhP 17.4 billion worth of FDI, 82.2 percent or PhP 14.3 billion were from reinvested earnings. The amount is three times more than the reinvested earnings recorded in the fourth quarter of 2006. This is in contrast with placements of equity capital, which posted a reduction of 28.4 percent, from PhP 9.7 billion to PhP 6.9 billion in the last quarter of 2007. Other capital accounts likewise, significantly decreased from a surplus of PhP 14.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2006 to a net outflow of PhP 3.8 billion.
